Sachin Tendulkar put up a heroic performance against Australia on this day (November 5), in 2009. In his illustrious career, Tendulkar has achieved multiple accolades and produced several memorable performances. The Master Blaster delivered a similar knock in the 2009/10 Australia Tour of India.
In the fifth ODI of the series, Tendulkar came up with a brilliant innings that saw him rack up 175 runs. Despite his heroic efforts, India failed to win the game and lost narrowly by three runs. The heartbreaking defeat did not stop Tendulkar from winning the Player of the Match award for his terrific show.
The 2009/10 India-Australia ODI series saw the visitors kick off the series with a four-run victory. India answered back winning the next two matches by 99 runs and six wickets, respectively. The Aussies won again to level the series 2-2 and then all eyes were turned to the fifth ODI in Hyderabad.
The game began with Australia winning the toss and choosing to bat first. A Shaun Marsh century propelled the Australians to a mammoth total of 350/4. Shane Watson added an 89-ball 93 and Cameron White chipped in with a quick-fire half-century towards the end of the innings.

Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag kicked off the chase for India. The duo were all fired up as they built an early 50-run partnership. Tendulkar added 19 runs whereas Sehwag scored 29. The ninth over saw Sehwag lose his wicket to Ben Hilfenhaus. Gautam Gambhir entered the crease but could not add more than eight runs.
Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni were also dismissed in quick succession, leaving Sachin Tendulkar stranded. The Master Blaster did not disappoint as he put up a memorable knock to keep India in the game.
Sachin Tendulkar added a half-century facing 47 deliveries, smashing seven boundaries. He received support from Suresh Raina as the duo combined for a formidable partnership. It took Tendulkar 81 deliveries to complete his ton. He also guided India to 200 runs in just 29.5 overs.
The Indian pair completed a 100-run partnership in 96 balls with Tendulkar adding 52 and Raina chipping in with 46. Tendulkar was eventually dismissed in the 48th over by Clint McKay. He left the pitch scoring 175 runs, smashing 19 boundaries and four sixes.

India lost the momentum after Sachin Tendulkar’s dismissal. Wickets of Ravindra Jadeja and Ashish Nehra fell within an over of Tendulkar’s departure. Finally, Praveen Kumar was sent back to the dressing room by a run out leaving India shy of the target at 347.
