India at Paris Paralympics 2024 Day 9 Highlights: Praveen Kumar became the latest Indian athlete to strike gold at the ongoing Paris Paralympics when he topped the men’s high jump T64 final with an area record of 2.08m. With that, India’s India’s medal count rose to 26, including six gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze, having already surpassed its best-ever haul.
Later in the day, Hokato Hotozhe Sema won the bronze medal in the men’s shot put F57 final with a personal best effort of 14.65m. Soman Rana, the other Indian in the field, finished fifth with a best attempt of 14.07m.
World champion Simran Sharma qualified for the final of women’s 200m T12 race by winning her semifinal.
In its pre-Games estimate, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) had stated that it was hoping to win at least 25 medals from the quadrennial showpiece and the athletes have surpassed that estimation with a historic show in Paris.
India’s overall medal tally has risen to 27 now.
