In Pune’s Parvati Constituency, posters congratulating Ashwini Kadam for her victory have surfaced in the Saras Bagh area.
In the wake of the Maharashtra assembly elections held on Wednesday, November 20, the focus now shifts to the results, which are set to be announced on Saturday, November 23. Voter turnout saw a notable increase, with 65% of eligible voters casting their ballots across the state, compared to lower turnout during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In Pune, the turnout stood at 60.70%, showing a rise from previous years.
As the fate of candidates is now locked in electronic voting machines (EVMs), the spotlight is on the assembly results, especially in Maharashtra. Amid the anticipation, posters celebrating candidates as victorious MLAs are already being put up, even before the results are declared.
In Pune’s Parvati Constituency, a poster congratulating Ashwini Kadam for her victory has surfaced in the Saras Bagh area. This early display has sparked speculation about Kadam’s eagerness to secure her position as an MLA. Kadam is the candidate from the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for the Parvati seat. Despite her defeat in the previous election, where she lost by a substantial margin of 35,000 votes, she was nominated again by the party this time.
Ashwini Kadam’s political journey started in 2007 when she was elected as a corporator on an NCP ticket. In 2012, she ran as an independent and won a second term as a corporator. She returned to the NCP fold in 2017 and won again in the corporator elections. However, her attempt to enter the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 2019 was unsuccessful, as she was defeated by a significant margin.
The presence of posters congratulating Kadam before the official results have been declared has raised eyebrows, suggesting her ambition to become an MLA may be driving her actions. Whether this pre-emptive display of confidence will translate into a win in the upcoming results remains to be seen.
