President Xi Jinping pledged to step up Chinese support to Africa by funding nearly $51 billion over three years. Xi said China would deepen industrial, agricultural, infrastructure, trade, and investment cooperation with the resource-rich continent. At the ninth China-Africa Cooperation Summit, Xi pledged to unilaterally expand market access to Africa as delegates from over 50 African nations gathered in Beijing. Xi said in the next three years, China will provide $51 billion of financial support, including ($30 billion) in credit facilities. The Chinese president also emphasised that many African countries are mired in debt and struggling to invest in sustainable development.
