    Sheetal Devi, shone bright on the day as she came inches within the WR in her individual ranking round with an incredible score of 703 to finish second and earn progress. She was aided by Rakesh’s brilliant 696 effort that helped the duo create history.

    The Indian mixed compound archery team of Sheetal Devi and Rakesh Kumar smashed the World Record on Thursday with a combined score of 1399 to set a new Paralympic Record at the Paris edition of the Games.

    The duo will head to the quarterfinal of the event as top seeds on the 2nd of September.

    Rakesh’s score on the day ensured that he moved into the 1/16 elimination round of the men’s individual event as he finished in fifth, while Sheeal advanced to the 1/8 elimination round of the women’s individual compound event with her score.

    Sarita Kuamri, who came in 9th in the women’s individual compound event with a score of 682 moved into the 1/16 elimination round of the event.

    The Mixed Team Recurve comprising Harvinder Singh and Pooja posted a combined score of 1222 to enter the 1/8 elimination round of the event.

    The national contingent had a good day to kickstart their Paralympic campaign in Paris on Thursday as the archers dished out statement performances, while the badminton unit demonstrated their strength as multiple big names including Sukanth Kadam, Tarun Dhillon, Palak Kohli, Nitesh Kuma, Manisha Ramadass among others who earned progress with resounding triumphs on the opening day of the quadrennial spectacle.
