Sukhbir Badal Firing: Shiromani Akali Dal has linked Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar to Narain Singh Chaura, accused in the assassination bid of SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal at the Golden Temple, alleging that the Superintendent of Police was seen shaking hands with the shooter in the CCTV footage.

This comes after Bhullar said that all angles in the case will be investigated, including the “sympathy angle”. “Even if this attack was staged to gain sympathy, I have got a lot of questions about this. So, we are looking at a number of angles,” the CP had said.

Reacting to this, SAD General Secretary Bikram Singh Majithia shared the CCTV footage on X and alleged that the SP was seen shaking hands with the accused before the firing incident took place. Majithia asked if the CP had links with Chaura and whether the SP and other officers would be arrested.

“Don’t you have links with Narain Chaura? In this video, your SP Harpal is seen shaking hands with terrorist Narain Chawra. Was Narain Chawra a relative of your SP’s uncle or aunt? Was it all a conspiracy by Punjab Police with your involvement? Will you arrest SP Harpal and the other officers involved? I demand an independent Supreme Court inquiry into CP Gurpreet Singh Bhuller, SP Harpal, and AIG Jagjit Walia,” Majithia posted on X, adding the CCTV footage.

Narain Singh Chaura’s Old Facebook Post Criticises Badal

In a Facebook post in July this year, Chaura had said that any apology by Badal could not undo the party’s “sins”.

Notably, Badal was attacked while serving the religious punishment given to him by the Akal Takht over “lapses” by the government led by him from 2007 to 2017, including the sacrilege cases under it.

The Chaura said that the SAD was politically rejected by the Sikh community in Punjab due to the party’s “grave misdeeds”. He claimed that the SAD was now using Akal Takht Sahib as a means to revive its tarnished reputation.

“This party is an enemy of the Panth and no longer has the right to lead the Sikh community in the political arena,” he wrote.

“Any attempt to absolve them of their wrongdoings through symbolic punishments will not be accepted by the Khalsa Panth,” Chaura added.

Chaura has also been writing at other fora on the “sacrilege” cases under the Akali government. Questioning “the lack of justice” in the matters, he has justified murders of some accused or suspects in the sacrilege cases.
