Addressing BJP workers at the party headquarters in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said Congress tried to give “death penalty” to “real secularism.”
Accusing Congress of appeasement politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said there is no place for Waqf law in the constitution, setting the stage for a stormy winter session of Parliament as the government will table the Waqf Amendment Bill.
Addressing BJP workers at the party headquarters in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said Congress tried to give “death penalty” to “real secularism.”.
“Congress made laws for appeasement. It did not even care for SC. An example is Waqf Board. In 2014, these people while leaving many properties near Delhi were given to Waqf Board. There is no place for Waqf law in the Constitution given to us by Babasaheb Ambedkar, but the Congress did this to increase its vote bank. Congress tried to give death penalty to real secularism,” Modi said.

The PM’s remarks came ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament, which would begin from November 25. Amid opposition protests, the bill, which aims to streamline the Waqf Board’s work and ensure the efficient management of Waqf properties, was referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) in the last monsoon session.
The government has already listed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill for consideration and passage in the Winter session “after the report of the joint committee is presented to the Lok Sabha”.
The PM also accused of Congress and its allies trying to build a wall between Kashmir and the rest of India by talking about bring back Article 370. He said that the victory of BJP-led alliance shows that people will not let it happen.
“Congress tried to make a wall of 370 in Kashmir again. Maharashtra categorically said ‘Ye nahin chalega’ (This will not work),” he said.
Modi said the sentiment of “Ek hain toh safe hain” has taught a lesson to those who make people fight in the name of caste, religion, language and region. “It has punished them. Tribals, OBCs, Dalits, every section of the society voted for BJP-NDA. This is a strong blow to the thinking of the entire eco-system of Congress and INDI alliance, which was running an agenda to divide the society…,” he said.
