Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar on Monday had a humourous exchange with nephew Rohit Pawar, who recently won the Karjat-Jamkhed constituency with a narrow margin on the NCP-SP ticket.

In a light-hearted exchange that has gone viral on social media, Ajit Pawar asked Rohit to bow down and take his blessings and then jokingly said, “You got lucky. If I had held a rally here, the result would have been…”

Ajit Pawar, leaving his message open-ended, implied that if he had campaigned in the Karjat-Jamkhed seat, Rohit Pawar might have lost.

Sharad Pawar’s grandson Rohit Pawar, narrowly secured victory in the Karjat-Jamkhed constituency in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly Elections, the results of which were announced on November 23.

NCP (SP)’s Rohit Pawar polled 1,27,676 votes, defeating BJP’s Ram Shankar Shinde by a narrow margin of 1,243 votes, according to the election commission data.

The two leaders from rival factions met on Monday when they reached Preeti Sangama to pay their respects on the death anniversary of Yashwantrao Chavan.

During the playful encounter, Ajit Pawar also congratulated Rohit Pawar on his victory, but with a teasing remark, sparking political discussions between them.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti alliance came back to power in Maharashtra with a surprising victory on 230 of the 288 Assembly seats, defeating Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi which managed to win just 46 seats.

The BJP emerged as the single-largest party, winning 132 seats, while Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena won 57 and Ajit Pawar’s NCP bagged 41 seats. In the MVA, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) won 10 seats, the Congress won 16, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) won 20 seats.
