Amid the speculations over the next Maharashtra chief minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Ajit Pawar on Monday said the decision on the same would be taken after leaders of all the Mahayuti alliance sit together. However, he also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party “must have decided something” over the same.

Pawar also confirmed that discussions on the post and the government formation formula were already underway.

“We will decide the formula for the chief minister post by sitting together. The BJP is the largest, they must have decided something,” Pawar said while speaking to reporters in Satara district of the state.

Pawar also acknowledged the contribution of the government’s ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme, which provides financial assistance to women, in the Mahayuti’s victory in the just-concluded state assembly polls.

“The expectations of people from us have increased, and we will give them a very stable and strong government,” Pawar said.

“This is the first time in the history of Maharashtra that an alliance has achieved large-scale success. Earlier, we have seen the wave of Indira (Gandhi) Ji and Rajiv Gandhi. But this time Maharashtra had decided something different.”

“We tried to reach the common people with the schemes without any impact on development work, did not discriminate on the basis of caste, religion or anything,” he said.

On the government formation, Pawar said, “Government in the state should be formed by November 27, after which there won’t be presidential rule.”

In the Maharashtra poll results declared on November 23, the ruling Mahayuti, which comprises the BJP, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, bagged an impressive 230 of the 288 assembly seats.

The focus has been on BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is being seen as a strong contender to occupy the top post for the third time, as his party bagged 132 of the 149 seats it contested in the state.

Notably, Maharashtra minister and Shiv Sena leader Deepak Kesarkar has said his party legislators feel Eknath Shinde should continue as the chief minister of the state, where the ruling Mahayuti scored a landslide victory in the assembly polls.
