The Shillong edition is sure to be a celebration of the city’s artistic spirit. The festivities don’t end there – Spoken Fest will head to Bengaluru on February 22, 2025.
Get ready for a feast of creativity, music and poetry. The debut edition of Spoken Fest in Shillong is ready to make waves this December. Imagine indie-folk melodies intertwining with soulful beats and thought-provoking poetry — all coming together in the heart of Meghalaya’s capital. Headlining the event will be the beloved indie-folk band When Chai Met Toast, known for their catchy tunes and heartfelt lyrics. Alongside them, expect the mesmerising voices of singer-songwriters Clayton Hogermeer and Anoushka Maskey, complemented by multi-instrumentalist Moli’s musical genius.
The local scene will also shine, with hip-hop and R&B sensation Meba Ofilia, along with the explosive hip-hop duo Khasi Bloodz, ready to light up the stage.
Spoken Fest Shillong will take place on December 6 at the picturesque Ward’s Lake, a perfect spot that promises to blend natural beauty with artistic brilliance. Alongside the musical performances, the festival will show the region’s creative pulse, with a special performance from pop-soul artist Elena Sohktung, supported by the Meghalaya government’s Grass Roots Music Project.
But it’s not just music – the poetry lineup is just as exciting, featuring the talents of Priya Malik, Lalnunsanga Ralte, and Madhu Raghvendra. For those who enjoy storytelling, actors Amol Parashar and Merenla Imsong, as well as poet Trinetra Haldar, will share their captivating narratives.
While the Shillong edition was rescheduled from November, it’s sure to be a celebration of the city’s artistic spirit. And the festivities don’t end there – Spoken Fest is also headed to Bengaluru on February 22, 2025, while Mumbai will host its edition on February 1-2, 2025.
In the words of Roshan Abbas, founder of Kommune and director of Spoken Fest, “Spoken Fest is more than just performances; it’s a tapestry of diverse voices and backgrounds, where poetry meets prose to create magic. By expanding to Bangalore and Shillong, we’re not only providing a platform for local artists to shine but also inviting audiences to connect with the cultural richness of these cities. We’re particularly excited to tap into Shillong’s creative community, exploring new ways to blend traditional storytelling with contemporary art forms. In Shillong, we see an opportunity to push the boundaries of spoken word, creating a festival edition that’s as dynamic and artistically rich as the city itself,” reports Rolling Stone India.
