The incident of the failed attempt to murder the TMC councillor in Kolkata was caught on the CCTV.
A TMC councillor narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday evening when a gunman’s weapon malfunctioned as he aimed at the leader, visuals captured on the CCTV installed in front of his house showed.
The incident occurred while Sushanto Ghosh, councillor of Ward 108 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, was sitting on the pavement and talking to people yesterday evening.
How Did The Incident Take Place?
A man arrived on a two-wheeler with another person. He pointed a 9mm pistol at the councillor; however, his weapon jammed, and he was unable to open fire.
The footage showed the TMC councillor charging at him as the attempted murder failed. The gunman tried to mount the scooter as his accomplice accelerated. He lost his balance and was unable to get on the vehicle. He was subsequently apprehended by local residents.
In another video, he was heard telling the crowd that beat him that he had not been paid any money and was only given a photograph and ordered to kill the councillor. The gunman was handed over to the police, who are investigating the incident.
According to reports, the gunmen were hired from Bihar.
The TMC councillor stated that he was unaware of anyone who might have wanted him dead. Local MP Mala Roy and MLA Javed Khan later visited him.
