Virat Kohli kicks off his workout sessions with warm-up exercises like jogging, jumping jacks and cycling.
Virat Kohli has always put much focus on his diet and fitness to remain at the top of his game. Kohli has displayed how fitness can play a pivotal role in having a long and illustrious career. The star Indian batter follows a strict diet that has no place for deep-fried and spicy items. The result has been evident on the field. Regarding fitness, Kohli can easily challenge and beat many young cricketers of the present generation.
Kohli celebrates his 36th birthday today, November 5. On this special occasion, let’s take a look at his diet, training routine and the importance of fitness in his career.
Virat Kohli opened up about his food habits during an interview with Star Sports last year. “When you are figuring out your fitness journey, you are trying to figure out all sorts of things, vitamins, extra hydration, protein, this, that, to a point where you figure out okay this is what works for me. This is the right balance,” he said, as per the Indian Express.
Virat Kohli further opened up about the challenge of having the same food every day.
According to the World Cup winner, he needed time to overcome the issue. “I mean repetition is everything. So the basic challenge that I felt in terms of fitness, is food,” he said.
About his strict, plant-based diet, Virat Kohli explained, “90 per cent of my food is all steamed, boiled. No masala. Only salt, pepper, and lime, that’s how I eat. I am not a big fanatic about the taste of food, I don’t care about the taste.”

“Salads, I enjoy with a bit of dressing. Pan-grilled is good with a bit of olive oil or whatever. No curries, I only eat dal (lentils), but no masala curries. I do, however, eat rajma and lobhiya; as a Punjabi can’t skip them,” Virat Kohli added.
Food, however, is not the only thing to be kept in check. Virat Kohli also follows a rigorous training routine to stay in shape.
Kohli kicks off his workout sessions with warm-up exercises like jogging, jumping jacks and cycling.
Once he feels flexible, the former Indian captain shifts his focus to movement training– both compound and isolation.
Compound movements such as squats, deadlifts, overhead presses and barbell bench presses cover more than one body part. Isolation movements, on the other hand, include dumbbell flies, bicep curls, split squats, preacher curls, front raises etc.
Virat Kohli makes sure to cool down his body after an intense workout session. He first takes a cold shower to regain his energy. In between the exercises and after everything is done, he drinks natural spring water with a high pH to hydrate himself.
