Bumrah played in the first two matches of the ongoing series against New Zealand and managed to take three wickets.
Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was unable to take even one wicket in the second Test played against New Zealand in Pune last week, will not feature in the third Test against the Tom Latham-led side. According to a report in Indian Express on Thursday (October 31), 31-year-old Bumrah, who is India’s vice captain in Tests, has been rested for the final match of the home series, which India has already conceded after losing the first two Tests played in Bengaluru and Pune by 8 wickets and 113 runs, respectively.
As per the available information, Bumrah has flown back home to Ahmedabad on Wednesday night after he was given rest in order to recover adequately for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian team is set to travel to Australia on November 10 to take part in the five-match Test series.
“He won’t be playing the Mumbai Test and has flown back home. The Indian team management wanted him to take some rest so that he could recover his body. He will now join the Indian team when the team departs for Australia,” a source was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
It has been reported that Indian team management wanted to rest the Ahmedabad-based pacer for the second Test in Pune, but they had to play him after the hosts lost the first Test in Bengaluru.
Bumrah was seen with the rest of the members of the Indian team during the practice session at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, but he didn’t bowl in the nets. Instead, he did his drills and physical activity.
Indian’s head coach Gautam Gambhir was asked about Bumrah’s training on Wednesday, to which he said, “I think he’s (Bumrah) just done his preparations; I think we know how the weather is in Mumbai, so obviously he needs to conserve his energy as well. So, he’s done his bowling; he’s prepared really well, and he’s fine. That’s why he’s a senior player; he knows how much he needs to prepare for the Test match.”
Bumrah has featured in nine out of 10 Tests India has played so far in 2024, and in those he has accounted for the dismissal of 41 batters.
