Dharmesh Yelande, popularly known as Dharmesh Sir, is celebrating his 41st birthday today, October 31. He has made a name for himself in Bollywood, rising from a dance teacher to a renowned choreographer. He gained fame as a contestant on Dance India Dance Season 2. Known for his expertise in freestyle, locking, popping and hip-hop, Dharmesh has continued to impress audiences with every performance.
Apart from choreography, he has also made his mark as an actor in films like ABCD: Any Body Can Dance and Banjo. Let’s take a moment to look at his incredible journey in the dance and film industry on his special day.
Journey From Contestant To Judge On Dance Reality Show
Hailing from Vadodara, Gujarat, Dharmesh ran his own dance academy, D’Virus before his appearance on Dance India Dance Season 2. After his debut, Dharmesh participated in several other dance reality shows like Dance India Dance Li’l Masters, Dance Ke Superstars and Dance Plus. He also served as a judge on Dance Deewane 3.
But very a few people know that Dharmesh won the popular 90s show Boogie Woogie, taking home a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh. He shared this heartfelt story during an episode of Dance Deewane 3 where the Boogie Woogie judges, Javed Jaaferi and Naved Jaaferi, were special guests.
After his success on television, Dharmesh made his Bollywood debut with Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan in 2010 as a choreographer. He made his acting debut in 2013 with the 3D dance film ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, starring Prabhu Deva and Kay Kay Menon.
The film became a major hit, leading to a successful sequel, ABCD 2 starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles. His other films include Banjo (2016), Nawabzaade (2018) and Street Dancer 3 (2020).
Dharmesh’s TV Shows
Dharmesh Yelande was a standout contestant on Dance India Dance Season 2, impressing the judges with his electrifying performance set to Indian flute music. His dancing skills earned him the runner-up position, paving the way for his success in other dance reality shows.
Following his initial success, Dharmesh showcased his talent in Dance India Dance Li’l Masters, where he trained the winner, Jeetumoni Kalita. He also assisted Geeta Kapoor on Dance India Dance Doubles and won Dance Ke Superstars. His journey continued as a mentor on Dance Plus and he later became a judge on Maharashtra’s Best Dancer and Dance Deewane Season 3.
He also participated in Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 10 where he emerged as the second runner-up. He has also made notable guest appearances on popular shows like The Kapil Sharma Show and Bigg Boss 14.

ABCD: Any Body Can Dance (2013)
Dharmesh began his acting career with ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, directed and choreographed by Remo D’Souza. The film features Prabhu Deva in the lead role, alongside Ganesh Acharya and Kay Kay Menon. Released globally in 3D, it received positive reviews.
ABCD 2 (2015)
ABCD 2, the stand-alone sequel to ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, was released in 2015 and directed by Remo D’Souza. The film stars Prabhu Deva, Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles.
Banjo (2016)
In 2016, Dharmesh took on a supporting role in Banjo, a musical action drama directed by Ravi Jadhav. The film which stars Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri, was released on September 23, 2016.
Nawabzaade (2018)
Nawabzaade is a 2018 romantic comedy directed by Jayesh Pradhan. The film features Dharmesh, Raghav Juyal and Punit Pathak in lead roles.
Street Dancer 3D (2020)
In 2020, choreographer Remo D’Souza returned with another dance gem Street Dancer 3D, featuring Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhu Deva in lead roles, alongside Nora Fatehi. Dharmesh took on a supporting role in the film.
