Australia will face Pakistan in a three-match T20I series that starts on November 14 in Brisbane, and the next two matches are scheduled to take place in Sydney and Hobart, respectively.
Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday (October 28) announced Australia’s 13-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Pakistan, which starts on November 14 in Brisbane. After the series opener at the Gabba, the next two shortest format matches are scheduled to take place in Sydney and Hobart on November 16 and 18, respectively. Keeping the high-profile five-match Test series against India in mind, the hosts have opted to rest Test stars from the T20I squad.
Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head, and Steve Smith are notable absentees from the T20I team, which features the likes of all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, along with star spinner Adam Zampa.
In the 13-member squad announced for the T20I series, apart from the many white-ball regulars, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Spencer Johnson return following their injury setbacks.
As per CA release, if any member of the T20I squad is picked up for the first Test against India in Perth, then he will join the Test side following the final match in Hobart.
“This group of players have all represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we look forward to them continuing to enhance their international experience throughout this series. We are excited by the mix of experience combined with those closer to the start of their international journeys,” chair of selectors George Bailey said in a release.
“It is particularly encouraging to have Xavier, Spencer, and Nathan back in the national setup. It’s another opportunity for them to continue to show their ability on the international stage, as they have done in the past,” he added.
Australia hasn’t announced the captain for the T20I series as of yet, but there are high chances that senior players like Maxwell or Stoinis could get the chance. Maxwell is the most experienced player in Australia’s T20I team, and he has also served as captain of the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League and the Punjab Kings (formerly Kings XI Punjab) in the IPL.
