Ahead of the much-awaited series, Pat Cumins made a cheeky remark when asked about his expectations from the pitches to host India.
The much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under is a month away, but the build-up has begun already. Team India will look to make a hat-trick of series victories in Australia after having swept it in 2018-19 and 2020-21 with an identical scoreline of 2-1.
On the other hand, Australia will aim to stop the Indian juggernaut with a foolproof plan. Under the leadership of Pat Cummins, the team has already jolted India twice last year. The Cummins-led Australia defeated India in the final of the World Test Championship and then beat Rohit Sharma’s men in the ODI World Cup title clash in November later in the year. Their next aim would be to bring back the BGT trophy after a decade.
This would be Cummins’ first Test series at home as the Australian captain. Ahead of the much-awaited series, he made a cheeky remark when asked about his expectations from the pitches to host India.
Speaking on the Grade Cricketer Podcast, Cummins hilariously stated that he would like to prepare ‘bushy pitches’, pointing at a plant behind the host of the show.
“I wish, if I had my way, the pitches would be looking like those bushes behind you (laughs),” said Cummins.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have any say, so we will wait and see. The last couple of seasons, the wickets have been awesome. It feels like if someone has scored a hundred, they have batted the house down. Taken them a few sessions, whereas my first couple of years, some of those wickets were so flat.”
The Australian captain expects an even competition between bat and ball throughout the series, comprising five Tests.
“I just hope there is a bit of balance between bat and ball. I think some of those Indian spinning wickets as well, I think that last tour, Delhi we should have won, it just gets the teams close to each other if you get wickets like that, but you don’t listen to our players complaining about those types of wickets,” said the Aussie skipper.
