The sequel to Fauji, which marked Shah Rukh Khan’s TV debut back in 1989, has gone on floors with a new cast. The shoot, currently underway in Pune, is a fresh take on the beloved military-themed drama series. Interestingly, Doordarshan is also re-airing the original Fauji series, taking fans on a nostalgic journey as they wait for the sequel.
The director of Fauji 2, Sandeep Singh, shared the motion poster for the series, adding the shoot began at the Symbiosis University in Pune. Along with the poster, he wrote, “Lights, Camera, Action! Journey towards remaking nostalgia begins. Fauji 2 shooting kicks off in Pune, Symbiosis College. Coming Soon on DD National. Join us on this remarkable journey. Stay tuned for updates!” Fauji 2 is co-produced by Vicky Jain and Zafar Mehdi, with Sameer Hallim serving as Creative Head. The series is a narrative by Vishal Chaturvedi, with a screenplay by Amarnath Jha and dialogues by Anil Choudhary and Chaitanya Tulsyan.
The sequel will feature a modern twist to the army-based drama with a new cast, including Gauahar Khan. Reportedly, the actress plays the role of Lieutenant Colonel Simarjeet Kaur in Fauji 2. Speaking about the sequel, she shared, “It’s the first time I’ve agreed to a project without even hearing the script. The moment Sandeep approached me, I said yes because I’m a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan. It’s a surreal feeling to be part of the Fauji universe, and it’s a proud moment to see Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic series being reintroduced,” quoted Bollywood Hungama.
In 1989, Fauji was directed by Raj Kumar Kapoor and it followed the training of an Indian Army commando regiment. This drama marked Shah Rukh Khan’s television debut. He played Lt. Abhimanyu Rai. The story follows a group of recruits going through their training, encountering numerous hurdles, playing pranks on one another, and facing the consequences of their conduct from their officers.
The original series airs on Doordarshan at noon. Doordarshan’s Director General Kanchan Prasad also told Bollywood Hungama that Fauji is a timeless masterpiece that continues to appeal to audiences. He added that as they prepare for Fauji 2, watching the first series is a great way to reconnect with the show’s roots and commemorate its heritage before the next chapter begins.
