The Delhi police has summoned Rhea Chakraborty and several other celebrities and influencers to question their connection in an app-based scam of nearly Rs 500 crore.

Actor Rhea Chakraborty was recently summoned by the Delhi Police in connection to an app-based scam of around Rs 500 crore. Reports mention that along with Chakraborty, the other celebrities who endorsed the app cheated users who invested their money.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Rhea Chakraborty has been summoned by the Delhi Police along with celebrities like comedian Bharti Singh and vlogger Elvish Yadav. The police have sent notices to around 20 influencers to question their link to the Hibox mobile app. The police sprung into action after users filed complaints of being conned by the app after they invested their money. Reports mention that users invested their money after watching celebrities and influencers endorse the app on social media.

The Hindu quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) Hemant Tiwari saying, “HIBOX is a mobile application that was part of a well-planned scam through which the accused promised guaranteed returns of one to five percent daily, amounting to 30% to 90% in a month. Over 30,000 people invested in the app.” The police commissioner also told PTI that the app promised a daily return of one to five percent, amounting to a 30 to 90 percent gain in investment money in a month.

Launched in February, the app initially paid users with impressive returns. However, starting in July, payments were delayed due to technical difficulties and legal complications. Various influencers, including Saurav Joshi, Abhishek Malhan, Purav Jha, Harsh Limbachiya, Lakshay Choudhary, Adarsh Singh, and Amit and Dilraj Singh Rawat, have reportedly received legal notices. Additionally, it was also revealed that the primary suspect, Sivaram from Chennai, has been apprehended, with Rs 18 crore confiscated from four of his bank accounts.

On the work front, Chakraborty is currently making her comeback into showbiz with her podcast.
