World No. 1 Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin becomes the first bowler in the world to take at least 50 wickets each in all three editions of the WTC.
Star Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has created history on Monday (September 30) by becoming the first bowler in the world to dismiss at least 50 batters each in all three editions of the World Test Championship (WTC) played so far. The 38-year-old spinner from Tamil Nadu, who sits at No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowler’s ranking, achieved the feat by taking his second wicket of the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur.
He dismissed Shakib Al Hasan for nine runs on the last ball of the 56th over to complete 50 wickets in the WTC 2023-25 cycle.
Ashwin, who is the second-leading wicket-taker in WTC history, dismissed 71 batters in 14 matches of the 2019-21 WTC cycle. In the 2021–23 edition, he got rid of 61 batters in 13 matches, and in the ongoing cycle, he has picked up 50 wickets in 10 matches.
