According to sources close to intelligence agencies, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s video was on expected lines. “He is a rogue element who has no identity. He is doing this on the directions of foreign agencies who have funded him,” say sources

Upset with the huge success of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event in the United States on Sunday, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Khalistani terrorist and chief of the banned Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), released a 90-second video threatening Indo-American citizens.

In his message, Pannun said, “Please take your Indo-Americans back to India. All those who planned and funded the event are followers of Modi’s Hindutva ideology.”

According to sources close to intelligence agencies, his video was on expected lines. “Pannun is a rogue element who has no identity. He is doing this on the directions of foreign agencies who have funded him. His law suit was planned deliberately at a time when the PM was going and these agencies never expected huge success. The event was as successful as any event in India,” sources said.

Pannun, a US citizen who is misusing his access in the UK and Canada, is responsible for acts of terrorism in multiple countries and is booked in multiple cases by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and state police departments in India.

Pannun had planned anti-Modi protests in the US, timing it with the PM’s visit.

Ahead of the PM’s visit from September 21-23, Pannun had filed a civil lawsuit in a US court, alleging Indian officials orchestrated a conspiracy to assassinate him, which was foiled as the hitmen turned out to be undercover US agents. The lawsuit seeks damages, alleging that he was targeted for speaking in favour of an independent Sikh state. The US court has summoned Centre’s officials, evoking a sharp response from New Delhi. Intel sources have termed the allegations “baseless”.

This is the first visit of PM Modi in his third term. It is also significant as this time, along with bilateral issues, QUAD, concerns of Global South, the focus is also on the war in Europe as he recently visited both Russia and Ukraine.

On September 23, Prime Minister Modi will address a gathering of world leaders at the Summit of the Future (SOTF) at United Nations and on the sidelines, he is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other Heads of states visiting New York for UNGA.
