Atishi will be the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj from the BJP and Sheila Dixit from the Congress
Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi will take oath as Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday at 4:30 pm along with her five Cabinet ministers. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Raj Bhavan.
The ruling party had initially decided that only Atishi would be sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi after Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation, however, it was later determined that her council of ministers would also take the oath along with her.
Atishi will be the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj from the BJP and Sheila Dixit from the Congress. Notably, the AAP leader will also be the youngest Chief Minister of the capital city.
Atishi’s Cabinet
While four ministers will be retained, AAP MLA Mukesh Ahlawat will be the new face in the Delhi Cabinet, sources informed. Delhi ministers who will be retained in the Cabinet are — Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Imran Hussain.
It is being speculated that Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Imran Hussain, who were ministers in the previous Kejriwal government, will be retained, while two party MLAs will also be inducted in the new Cabinet.
Kejriwal Picks Atishi As His Successor
Atishi, AAP MLA who represents the Kalkaji constituency in the Delhi Assembly and holds the highest number of portfolios in the Delhi government, will take over from Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned from the post on Tuesday after he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in Delhi excise policy case.
“People of Delhi, AAP MLAs and I — as the CM for a few months till elections, will work with just one goal. We have to make Arvind Kejriwal the CM of Delhi once again. As long as I am shouldering this huge responsibility, I will have just one goal. I will try to protect the people of Delhi and run the Government under the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal,” Atishi after Kejriwal declared her as his successor.
