By taking proactive steps, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and getting plenty of rest, you can better cope with fatigue and enjoy a more energized pregnancy.

Fatigue is a common experience during pregnancy, especially in the first and third trimesters. It occurs due to hormonal changes, increased energy demands, and the body working harder to support the growing baby. Fluctuations in progesterone levels, disrupted sleep patterns, and emotional stress can further contribute to exhaustion. Listening to your body and prioritizing self-care is essential for maintaining energy levels and overall well-being throughout pregnancy.

Dr Sanjida Yasmin, Senior Consultant (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist) at Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital, Chirag Enclave, New Delhi suggests ways to deal with fatigue during pregnancy:

Aim for at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night and take short naps during the day if possible. Staying hydrated and eating a well-balanced diet rich in iron, protein, and vitamins will also maintain energy levels.

Light to moderate exercise, such as walking or prenatal yoga, can boost circulation and help fight off tiredness, but it’s important to listen to your body and not overexert yourself.

Additionally, managing stress through techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or gentle stretching can help alleviate mental fatigue. It’s also crucial to ask for help and delegate household tasks, as overburdening yourself can worsen exhaustion.

Always consult with your doctor if fatigue becomes overwhelming or is accompanied by other symptoms like dizziness or shortness of breath, as it could indicate an underlying condition, such as anemia.

By taking proactive steps, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and getting plenty of rest, you can better cope with fatigue and enjoy a more energized pregnancy.
