Saudi Arabian international and Al Shadab skipper Fahad Al Muwallad was involved in a freak accident, falling off his second-floor balcony at his home in Dubai, according to reports.
The unfortunate freak incident is said to have occurred sometime between between 9-10am on Thursday, leading to the Saudi international being rushed to the hospital to get his multiple fractures treated.
Local news outlets reported the 30-year-old was placed in the intensive care unit upon arriving at the Rashid Hospital in Dubai.
His current club Al-Shabab confirmed the incident but did not disclose the nature of the winger’s injuries.
“We would like to clarify that the player was exposed yesterday morning, Thursday, September 12, 2024, to a fall accident in his private home in the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, and was transferred to a hospital where he is currently receiving the necessary medical care, with direct follow-up by His Highness the Minister of Sports, the Emir. Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi Football Federation, the Saudi Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the General Consulate in Dubai, and the club management. We wish Captain Fahad a speedy recovery,” read a statement released by Al Shadab.
Sources state that the winger was alone at his home at the time of the incident, and had been so for atleast 3 hours before when his friends left.
Street and home camera footage are now being looked into to determine the cause of the accident.
Al-Muwallad started his career in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad and made just under 250 appearances for the side, scoring 76 goals. He had a brief stint in Europe with a loan spell at Spanish side Levante but made just two appearances.
In the process, he became the first-ever Saudi footballer to play in the Spanish top division.
Al-Muwallad then moved to Saudi rivals Al-Shabab in 2022 and has gone on to appear on 38 occasions, scoring twice. He had played every minute of his side’s 2024/25 campaign ahead of his fall.
He also starred for Saudi Arabia in their recent World Cup qualifying matches against Indonesia and China, playing 19 minutes across both matches.
