Fans sure did make their voices heard on social media after seeing Shreyas Iyer walk out to bat wearing sunglasses and eventually falling for a duck.
Fans were having a field day after Shreyas Iyer stylishly entered the field during India D’s batting innings wearing sunglasses on Day 2 of the Duleep Trophy 2024 clash against India A in Anantapur on Friday.
Iyer who is leading the India D team walked into bat when the opening batter, Atharva Taide fell in the fourth ball of the first over to Khaleel Ahmed. After facing seven deliveries, Khaleel once again struck with the ball to get rid of his fellow international teammate. A fuller delivery from the left-arm pacer resulted in a catch being given to the fielder, Aaqib Khan at the mid-on position.
This fan had a sarcastic take on Iyer’s dismissal. He said on X (formerly Twitter), “Came with Sunglasses and gone for a duck”.
Shreyas Iyer has been out of favour when it comes to the international setup. After missing out on a central contract with the BCCI, he has made a massive statement by helping the Kolkata Knight Riders to the 2024 IPL title. But this fan reckons that he might not be taking his game seriously.
“Batting with sunglasses after getting dropped from team, He is not taking cricket seriously!!” said another fan.
Another fan had a witty take by saying that the sunglasses might not be of the best quality. “Lagta hai shreyas bhai 100s wala chashma use kr rhe the (Seems like Shreyas might have used a cheap pair of sunglasses worth 100rs)”.
Another fan had yet another witty remark suggesting that he had more style in his career than actual performance.
Another fan remains in disbelief that Shreyas was dismissed so cheaply when many want him to score the big runs and make a return to Test cricket.
India D remain in a precarious position as Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson’s premature dismissals have not exactly helped them get themselves in a good position. The likes of Ricky Bhui and Devdutt Padikkal seems to have a good start on their hands and the D-team will look to get the side back in contention of matching the 1st innings total.
