Chahal has impressed in his county championship stint with Northants while Prithvi Shaw has continued to struggle in the first-class format.
The Indian leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal had a fine performance in the County Championship Division 2 in England where he picked up nine wickets in the first-class match against Derbyshire at Northampton.
After being bowled out for 219 in the first innings, Chahal was able to lead the Northants bowling attack by picking up a five-wicket haul while conceding 45 runs in the 16.3 overs he had bowled in the first innings.
His fifer included key Derbyshire batters like Wayne Madsen who was on 47 along with Aneurin Donald to begin his tally for the match. He later cleaned up the tail-enders as well with three more wickets as Derbyshire were bundled out for just 165 runs.
In the second innings, Northants posted a score of 211 which resulted in a target of 265 runs being set for Derbyshire.
Chahal in partnership with the off-spinner Rob Keogh was able to wipe out the Derbyshire batting unit for just 165 runs to secure the win. Keogh picked up a fifer in the match while Chahal was able to add four to his tally to make it nine wickets across both innings.
Contrasting Woes for Prithvi Shaw
While Chahal was shining with the ball, the Indian opening batter, Prithvi Shaw who has been featuring in the English county setup, had a fairly uneventful outing when playing alongside his Indian teammate.
Shaw who also featured for Northants, finished with scores of 4 and 2 across both innings in the match against Derbyshire.
The 24-year-old last had a decent performance for the Northants during their One-Day Cup fixture against Worcestershire where he scored 72 in 59 balls during the match that took place in August 2024.
Both Chahal and Shaw have been out of favour when it comes to the international setup. The former has continued to showcase his class in the Indian Premier League but the latter has been fairly inconsistent when it comes to scoring with the bat.
Representing Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, Shaw has not had much of an impact as he sees his involvement with the side slowly reducing.
