Melania Trump breaks her silence ahead of Donald Trump’s debate with Kamala Harris, criticizing the Biden administration and highlighting challenges to free speech

Former US First Lady Melania Trump has issued a rare public statement ahead of her husband Donald Trump’s highly anticipated debate with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on September 10. So far, Melania has largely remained silent during Trump’s 2024 campaign, in contrast to his 2016 and 2020 presidential bids.

But on Sunday Melania took to social media to slam the Biden administration over rising living costs and what she described as efforts to “silence” her husband. In a video shared on X, she said, “The 2020 election results changed our lives forever. It impacted our quality of life, cost of food, gasoline, safety, and even the geopolitical landscape.”

‘America is more divided today’

Melania stressed that “America is more divided today” than ever before and highlighted the legal challenges facing Trump, claiming there are significant threats to free speech. Melania’s statement comes after a low-profile period since the Trump family left the White House in January 2021. She has not actively participated in Trump’s campaign and has been absent from political gatherings.

In a recent interview, Trump expressed a desire for Melania to take a more active role in his campaign. “It’s a nasty world for me,” he said, referencing the assassination attempt on the former US president. He also noted that Melania has a deep concern for the nation and would do “whatever necessary” to support his bid for the presidency.

Despite her limited public appearances, Melania is reportedly focused on family matters, including her son Barron’s college education, while also teasing her upcoming memoir, which promises to share her personal story and insights into her life. Earlier in July, Melania appeared at the Republican National Convention to support Trump’s third bid for the White House. Her presence helped the Republican Party show widespread unity, a theme that emerged prominently after the attempt on Trump’s life during a public rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
