23-year-old Navdeep Singh won a yellow metal for India in the men’s javelin throw F41 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024 on Saturday.

Navdeep Singh won a gold medal for India with a personal best effort of 47.32 metres in a dramatic men’s javelin throw F41 final at the Paris Paralympics on Saturday.

Starting the competition with a foul, the 23-year-old para-athlete from Haryana came up with 46.39 metres in his second attempt, propelling him to the second place. But it was his third throw that electrified the stadium.

With a remarkable throw of 47.32 metres, Navdeep shattered the Paralympic record and surged into lead, only for Iran’s Iran’s Beit Sayah Sadegh to better the Indian’s mark and clinch the gold with a record-breaking effort of 47.64 metres in his fifth attempt.

But Navdeep’s Paralympic silver was upgraded to gold after Beit was disqualified.

Navdeep’s yellow metal brought India’s medal tally at the Paralympics to 29, including seven gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze, solidifying the country’s position in the quadrennial extravaganza.

Navdeep is employed as an Inspector in the Income Tax Department in Bengaluru, showcasing his dedication to both his career and athletic pursuits.

Initially, Navdeep started his sports journey in athletics before only focusing on javelin throw. He received professional coaching in 2017 and made his international debut at the Asian Youth Para Games that year, where he won the gold medal in javelin throw. Navdeep has won five gold medals at the national level. In 2021, Navdeep participated in the Fazza International Championship in Dubai and secured the gold medal. Navdeep’s achievements are a testament to his hard work, determination, and the support he has received from his family and coaches.
