Ukraine on September 6 claimed to have recaptured part of the eastern town of New York, marking its first success on this front in months. The 12th Special Forces Azov Brigade said it helped to avert a “catastrophic” situation in New York. “At the time the brigade was deployed to the area, the situation on the front line was catastrophic,” the Azov Brigade said on X. The Azov Brigade said it unblocked the surrounded Ukrainian soldiers and regained part of the settlement. Kyiv’s counter-attack came just over two weeks after Russia captured the town that had a pre-war population of around 10,000 people.
