What if you could indulge in sweet treats without worrying about the consequences?
Desserts are a universal delight, yet many of us deny ourselves the pleasure due to health concerns. The high sugar content and calorie count in traditional desserts can lead to a range of health issues, causing many to abstain. But what if you could indulge in sweet treats without worrying about the consequences? Nutritionist Shyla Cadogan has discovered a secret ingredient that makes desserts healthier and guilt-free.
In an article published in StudyFinds, she suggested incorporating Greek yoghurt as a key component of sweet treats. However, she clarifies that simply topping a large slice of cake with Greek yoghurt doesn’t make it a healthy option.
Instead, Cadogan recommends using Greek yoghurt as a core ingredient in dessert recipes. Its tangy flavour and creamy texture make it an excellent addition to a variety of sweet dishes. What sets Greek yoghurt apart from regular yoghurt is its straining process, which removes excess whey and results in a thicker consistency and higher protein content.
Here a easy recipe to make a Greek yoghurt cake at home:
- First, pour the yoghurt into a large bowl, then whisk in the eggs. Once the mixture is silky smooth, sprinkle in the cornflour and whisk until thoroughly combined and smooth. Transfer the batter to the cake pan and bake for 1 hour, or until the top turns golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool for 30 minutes before transferring to the refrigerator. Don’t take it out of the pan throughout this process. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow it to solidify. Remove the cake from the refrigerator 15 minutes before serving.
Nutritionist Shyla Cadoghan informed that “Protein is the most filling macronutrient, so incorporating Greek yoghurt can make you less likely to overeat your treats. One cup of the nonfat variety has around 17 grams of protein.”
Moreover, Greek yoghurt is also rich in calcium, B12, phosphorus, zinc, and selenium as well. The expert suggested that delicious dips be created with Greek yoghurt, and it can also be used in cookie dough. Greek yoghurt can be used instead of oil or butter in conventional cakes and muffins to improve nutrition factors.
