In the two years as the Test team’s coach, Brendon McCullum has guided England to five series wins. He made an instant impact after guiding England to a 3-0 victory against New Zealand in June 2022.

Brendon McCullum has stated that he is ready to be judged by the results after he takes over as the coach of England’s white-ball team. Revolutionising Test cricket with his ‘Bazball’ approach, McCullum has made the format entertaining to watch while also delivering big wins. He is now set to oversee all three formats as head coach of the side until the end of 2027.

McCullum addressed the development during the press conference ahead of England’s 3rd Test against Sri Lanka.

“It’s going to be an added workload that’s for sure, but some bets are worth it, right? I’m happy to be governed by results and be in the gun if things don’t work out,” he said, according to multiple media outlets.

Currently serving as England’s Test coach, Brendon McCullum took over the squad in mid-2022. The former New Zealand cricketer led the side to some excellent results in the long format in the last couple of years, playing a different brand of cricket altogether. Talking about his journey McCullum stated that he initially did not have a whole lot of knowledge regarding English cricket. But McCullum added that he had a great time in the last couple of years with the England team.

“A couple of years ago I didn’t have a whole lot of knowledge about English cricket, relationships. But fast forward two years and I’ve had a great time, I absolutely love being in the position I am in,” Brendon McCullum said.

Brendon McCullum also talked about how he learned about talent management in English cricket. “I have a lot more knowledge about the talent that sits in English cricket. Ultimately I looked at the opportunity and thought what a great chance to have a good crack,” he explained.

In the two years as the Test team’s coach, Brendon McCullum has guided England to five series wins. He made an instant impact after guiding England to a 3-0 victory against New Zealand in June 2022. England defeated South Africa 2-1 before clean-sweeping Pakistan 3-0. They drew their next couple of series against New Zealand and England before losing their Test tour to India 1-4.

England recently beat the West Indies 3-0 and have already got the better of Sri Lanka 2-0 in their three-match Test series. The English side won the first game against Sri Lanka by five wickets and the following one by 190 runs. England will now be eyeing a clean sweep as they are set to host Sri Lanka in the third Test scheduled to start on September 6.
