When the cartilage goes away, the bone will grind right on top of another, resulting in joint discomfort and stiffness.

Rheumatoid arthritis is another prevalent form of arthritis. It occurs when the immune system attacks the joint lining (synovium). This swells and gradually damages the cartilage and bone. Multiple joints can be afflicted at the same time, and persons with rheumatoid arthritis may experience issues in other regions of their bodies as well.
