Many Indian Test players and hopefuls are taking part in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024, which got underway in Anantapur and Bengaluru on Thursday.

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has included RCB pacer Yash Dayal and two cricketers from Tamil Nadu in his list of five uncapped players to watch out for in the ongoing 2024 edition of the Duleep Trophy, which got underway in Bengaluru and Anantapur on Thursday (September 5).

Karthik, who represented South Zone in the Duleep Trophy during his playing days, picked Baba Indrajith and Abhimanyu Easwaran as two uncapped batters to watch out for in the premier domestic tournament. In addition to Dayal, he also included Tamil Nadu pacer Sandeep Warrier and former U-19 spinner Manav Suthar in the list.

“I will tell you straight away. Number one, Baba Indrajith, somebody who’s looking to stake a claim in that series to Australia, who’s done really well in domestic cricket, averages close to 60. No. 2, Manav Suthar, a left-arm spinner. Somebody I’ve been watching closely, outstanding left-arm spinner, really talented,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz’s AskCB with DK show when asked about five uncapped players in the Duleep Trophy 2024.

“Sandeep Warrier from Tamil Nadu, who’s done very well, literally looks like he’s born to play the longer format, who takes it seriously. We’ve seen a glimpse of what he did in the IPL as well, but his real skill lies in the four-day or a five-day format. And I think he bowls well; he’ll also have a great chance of a look-in.”

“Apart from that, there is obviously Yash Dayal, someone who’s done really well for India A, for RCB, and he’s a very highly skilled cricketer. Last but not least, Abhimanyu Eswaran; he’s a captain of one of the teams, who’s been very close to being part of the test set-up, and here is the opportunity to shine again. Will we see him on that flight to Australia? Time will tell,” he added.

On the first day of the premier domestic tournament, bowlers dominated the show, and a total of 14 wickets fell in the India C vs India D match in Anantapur. Whereas in the other match played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, India B managed to post a total of 202 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 79 overs.
