People with heart and liver issues should avoid consuming it too much.

Amrita Mishra, a senior dietician from the Delhi Diet Clinic Noida talks about what disadvantages ghee could have and who should avoid its heavy consumption.

Ghee is undoubtedly one of the most important ingredients in an Indian kitchen. It simply enhances the taste of any dish it is cooked with or just paired with. Ghee is known to be a nutritious addition to our diet but, how much of it should be consumed? And what risks can it pose to our health if eaten too much? Expert Amrita Mishra, a Senior Dietician from the Delhi Diet Clinic Noida talks about what disadvantages ghee could have and who should avoid its heavy consumption.

    Heart patient:

As per the dietician, ghee consumption is not harmful at all if consumed in moderation or limited quantities. If eaten excessively, it can lead to many health issues. So, people with cardiovascular or heart-related issues must take extra care with its consumption. The presence of fatty acids in ghee increases the risk of a heart attack. Going by the dietician’s advice, only 10 milligrams of ghee should be consumed to keep your heart safe.

    Liver patients:

If you are experiencing health issues related to the liver, the intake of ghee should be reduced. Eating too much ghee on an unhealthy liver can lead to the problems of jaundice and gastrointestinal pain, stated the dietician.

    Obesity:

If you are on your weight loss journey then ghee is to be taken in small amounts. According to Amrita, ghee is a good source of conjugated linoleic acid, which can be good for weight loss. Since ghee is high in calories it could reverse the effects. The dietician states that an average person can eat 2 teaspoons of cow’s ghee daily.

    Pregnancy:

During pregnancy, ghee can prove to be a very beneficial ingredient for the mother and the child. But consuming a lot of it can lead to the conditions of indigestion, bloating or even diarrhoea. Pregnant women commonly experience digestion issues, so it is better to eat it in low amounts for easier digestion, added the Amrita Mishra.
