Pitru Paksha 2024: Online Booking For Rituals Underway At Kashi – News18

The method of online booking and worshipping services is growing significantly in the country. Whether it’s Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva during Sawan or Shradh during Pitru Paksha, people from distant locations are now booking these rituals in Kashi. Priests in Kashi are receiving calls from patrons in places like Delhi, Maharashtra, Jammu, and even abroad. Most bookings are being made for rituals at Pichas Mochan Tirth, Assi, Dashashwamedh, and Kedar Ghat. These pilgrimage sites in Kashi hold special significance, particularly during Pitru Paksha, when people from far-off regions come to perform rituals for the peace of their ancestors’ souls. Kashi’s pilgrimage priest, Balram Mishra, explained that the Tripindi Shradh is performed at Pishach Mochan Tirtha and is said to liberate souls from untimely death. This site is renowned globally for freeing unsatisfied souls. Pinddaan and Tarpan rituals hold special importance at Assi, Kedar Ghat, and Dashashwamedh Ghat.

With Pitru Paksha beginning on September 18, online bookings for Shradh, Pind Daan, and Tripindi have commenced with the priests. For these online rituals, patrons only need to provide their name and gotra. The rituals are then conducted at a scheduled time and date, with patrons joining via video call from afar.

Pitru Paksha is dedicated to honouring the deceased ancestors and paying respect to them. It is generally observed for 15-16 days. This year, it will commence on September 17 and conclude on October 2. It is observed from Bhadrapada Purnima Tithi, the full moon day, which marks the Pitru Paksha Shradh. During this time, Hindus perform Shradh rituals like Tarpan, Shradh and Pinddaan are performed for their ancestors.

This time, the second lunar and solar eclipse of the year is during Pitru Paksha. Astrologer Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal of Deoghar highlights the effects of Solar and Lunar Eclipse on Pitru Paksha and advises the necessary precautions to be taken on this occasion by the Hindu devotees.

As per Local 18, this year, Pitru Paksha will start with a lunar eclipse. Pitru Paksha will start with Pratipada Shradh on September 17. The second lunar eclipse of the year is going to occur on the same day making the Pitru Paksha inauspicious. The second lunar eclipse of the year will not be visible in India, but its impact will be considered on Pitru Paksha.
