Vinesh Phogat has recently hinted that she might relook at her decision to retire from wrestling following the turn of events at the recent Paris Olympics.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Friday and prayed to Waheguru to ‘give her strength’. Phogat heartbreakingly missed out on a maiden Olympic medal in Paris earlier this month after failing the weigh-in ahead of her final bout of women’s freestyle 50kg event.

“I am feeling very good after coming here. I am feeling a positive energy. I prayed to Waheguru to give me strength,” Phogat was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

In the aftermath of the stunning development, Phogat announced retirement from wrestling. However, recently, she hinted at rethinking her decision.

“Maybe under different circumstances, I could see myself playing till 2032 because the fight in me and wrestling in me will always be there,” she had said.

Phogat filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to award her a joint-silver medal. However, CAS dismissed her appeal.

The 30-year-old returned home and was given quite a reception. Later on, she was felicitated by the Sarvkhap Panchayat in Rohtak (Haryana).

“My fight has not ended, it has rather just begun. The fight for our daughters’ honour has just started. We said the same thing during our sit-in,” Phogat said, addressing the event during which she was honoured with a gold medal.

“When I could not play in Paris, I thought I was very unfortunate but after returning to India and experiencing all the love and support here, I feel that I am very fortunate,” she said.

Phogat said such a gesture will also encourage other women sportspersons that their communities are there to support them even in their lean phase.

“I will forever be indebted for this honour which is above any medal,” she added.
