Avoid using products with excessive chemicals.
Leaving a child with a wet or dirty diaper for long durations can cause rashes.
A baby’s skin is very delicate and needs extra care and protection from the environment. If proper attention is not given, they may suffer from skin conditions like rashes, dryness, irritation and infections. Here is a list of common mistakes that parents should avoid to keep their infant’s skin safe.
Say ‘No’ to these products:
According to a health website, products that contain chemicals like parabens and phthalates are to be avoided strictly. Such chemicals can be commonly found in plastics and several skin care products like powders, shampoos and soaps. Non-comedogenic (which does not clog pores) products, hypoallergenic (not causes allergies) and unscented products should be used for babies.
Frequent bathing:
Keep in mind, newborns do not need a bath daily. They should be given a full bath with a gap of 48 to 72 hours, which means 2 to 3 days. Avoid soaps that foam too much, it can make the skin rough and cause irritation. As per more information, excessive bathing and high usage of such products can cause eczema.
Wearing diapers for a long time:
Leaving a child with a wet or dirty diaper for long durations can cause rashes. So, make sure to change diapers after short intervals and you can also leave the babies without diapers for some time.
Not using sunscreen:
If the child is getting exposed to sunlight, they are at a high-risk of skin damage. You can protect their skin with an umbrella, any cloth and can also use special sunscreens for babies.
Excessive or under-dressing:
A child should be dressed according to the weather. Layers of clothes during the summers or vice versa during winters can harm the baby and their skin. It is better to make them wear clothes made with natural fabric.
Not moisturising the skin:
Remember to moisturise your infant’s skin before and after a bath. It keeps the skin moisturised and provides protection against many skin problems. You can use coconut oil before bathing them and after that make sure to apply lotion.
