It has been reported that Olmo would be able to play Barcelona’s next fixture against Rayo Vallecano in Vallecas as Andreas Christensen’s injury permitted the club to register the Spaniard provisionally.

Barcelona seem to have got something to cheer for as LaLiga has reportedly approved the registration of Dani Olmo. The Catalan giants signed the midfielder from RB Leipzig for a fee of around €55 million but they had been facing some trouble in registering him due to the league’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Andreas Christensen’s injury permitted the club to register the Spaniard provisionally. The update was recently shared on X (formerly Twitter). “JUST IN: Dani Olmo will be REGISTERED by Barca due to Christensen’s injury! He will be provisionally registered until December 31st. Olmo can debut tomorrow,” read a post.

Barcelona had already generated some breathing room in player salaries with the departures of Clement Lenglet, Mika Faye, Vitor Roque and Ilkay Gundogan. Yet the Spanish giants were unable to find adequate space to add Dani Olmo to the squad. It was later reported that Olmo would be able to play Barcelona’s next fixture against Rayo Vallecano in Vallecas.

As per MD via Mundo Deportivo, La Liga considered the possibility of a long-term absence of Christensen as they did with Inigo Martinez when Ronaldo Araujo was not playing. Based on Article 77 of La Liga’s Economic Control Regulations, the club can now utilise 80 per cent of Christensen’s salary to register Olmo.

Interestingly, the medical report that Barcelona used to get Olmo’s registration approved indicates Christensen will be out of action for four months. But the player’s camp suggests that he will be sidelined for only two months. As it stands, Barcelona got a green signal to use Olmo services.

This is not the first time Barcelona faced problems in registering their new signings. In the past consecutive seasons, player registrations often boiled down to the final days of the transfer window. Journalist Gerard Romero also spoke on the club’s situation saying that he no longer believed in what they said or announced. “Me, right now, I don’t believe the club now. The time has come when I just don’t believe them, and I feel like that, I’m sorry Lluis. I feel like that because the club do not meet the deadlines that they put out in recent months,” he said via Football Espana.

Olmo’s addition to the squad will surely take some heat off them but it still is not a permanent solution. The current registration is said to be valid only until December 31 this year. Hence, the club must find the right measures to free a considerable chunk of its salary cap to register Olmo again in January 2025.
