The Bhavishya Puranas say that if a person observes this fast once, they will get a reward equaling 20 crore Ekadashis. Furthermore, the devotee will stay protected from a premature death, stated the Pandit.

The fast should be done with a resolution, according to Pandit Dheeraj. The resolution should be, “Lord, I am fasting for you on Janmashtami. Make it successful.” The devotees should keep a vigil till 12 in the night and must worship Lord Krishna in his child form, after his birth.
