Jadon Sancho at Manchester United (X)
Considering Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggle, it’s unlikely for them to opt for a permanent deal. As his wage bill may become a problem, club director Deco is exploring the possibility of a lone move for Sancho.
With Jadon Sancho featuring in the pre-season games, it seemed the rift between him and Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag was settled. Many fans took it as a hint of Sancho staying at least one more season at Old Trafford. The English forward was used as a false-nine striker in the friendly fixtures. He, however, didn’t feature in the Community Shield final against Manchester City as well as the Premier League opener against Fulham. Amid growing speculations about his future at the club, Sancho has reportedly come under the radar of Barcelona.
As per Sport, the Catalan outfit are “keeping their eyes” on Sancho, who spent the last season at his former club Borussia Dortmund on loan. Manchester United have set an asking price of £35 million for the 24-year-old winger.
Considering Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggle, it’s unlikely for them to opt for a permanent deal. As his wage bill may become a problem, club director Deco is exploring the possibility of a lone move for Sancho, the Sport report claims. The youngster joined Machester United in 2021, signing a contract worth £73 million.
According to a report by the Mirror, Sancho currently has a weekly wage of £290,000. When he was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund last season, Manchester United were expected to pay a third of his salary. The Old Trafford hierarchy may have been keen to offload Sancho this summer but they have not yet confirmed anything about the wage break-out.
Meanwhile, Barcelona must release a few players to register new signings ahead of the deadline day of this transfer window. Even if they secure the potential loan deal of Sancho, the La Liga side may face challenges in covering his hefty wage bill, which equates to over £15 million a year.
Several media reports earlier claimed that Manchester United expect their fellow Premier League club Chelsea to make a move for Sancho. It, however, seems unlikely given the overall spending of the Blues in their summer window. Sky Sports also reported that Juventus are also interested in Sancho and has already discussed personal terms with Manchester United.
