The Lucknow Supergiants could be looking to bring in the Indian fast-bowling great, Zaheer Khan as a mentor for the franchise.

The former India fast-bowling great, Zaheer Khan is being tipped to be the new mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants. His inclusion would be the direct replacement of the former mentor, Gautam Gambhir and the new India bowling coach, Morne Morkel.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the LSG franchise is considering Zaheer Khan to be their new mentor and his bowling expertise would come in handy to help out the bowlers within the side as well.

Earlier, Zaheer was tipped as a candidate for the vacant bowling coach role within the Indian cricket team where he would mentor the younger crop of pacers in and around the team. This has been something that Zaheer has done even in his playing days as well.

If the move to LSG does materialise, the report suggests that he would be collaborating with the likes of Head Coach, Justin Langer along with the other coaching staff like Adam Voges, Lance Klusener and Jonty Rhodes along with others. It is also possible that the franchise could be on the hunt for another prominent coach, but details regarding that remain unclear at the moment.

Zaheer has had a stellar career in international cricket and has also impressed during his coaching stint with the 5-time champions, Mumbai Indians. His role with the Lucknow-based franchise would be an active conversational role between the players and the management within the franchise.

During his international career, Zaheer Khan has taken part in 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is for the country. In the IPL he has played 100 games representing the likes of Delhi Daredevils (now renamed to Delhi Capitals), Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians.

Ahead of the 2025 edition of the IPL would come to the mega-auctions where franchises will have the best chance of bolstering their respective squads with the best talents on offer. The report suggested that franchises would be expected to have around six retentions along with the Right-to-Match (RTM) card. Despite certain franchises wanting to discontinue the practice of mega-auction, the BCCI plans on continuing with it for the time being.
