Social media erupted as the India Men’s Hockey team beat Spain to win the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.
The India Men’s Hockey team grabbed their 13th medal in the Olympic Games by beating Spain with a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the bronze medal match in Paris on Thursday.
The skipper Harmanpreet Singh was able to bag two goals via penalty corners to give the Indian side the victory at Yves du Manoir Stadium in Colombes, northwest of Paris.
The win would make it the nation’s fourth bronze medal in the sport and their second consecutive third-place finish after Tokyo 2020, adding to their medals tally which has eight golds and three silvers.
The Indian team were on the backfoot after Spain scored a penalty corner in the 18th minute and almost saw them score the second but luck was on India’s side as the shot was rebounded off the post.
The former India hockey player, Viren Rasquinha’s heartbeats were certainly racing in the closely fought contest against Spain. But the former Indian international hopes that the second consecutive bronze will boost the sport within the nation even further.

The Beijing 2008 bronze medalist, former Indian boxer, Vijender Singh was also elated to see the Hockey team bring the medal. He thanked the team for making the nation proud yet again.

The Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist, the Indian wrestler, Bajrang Punia was also heaping massive praise for the Indian team securing consecutive bronze medals at the quadrennial event, ending a 52-year gap for the rare achievement.

Abhinav Bindra, India’s Olympic gold medallist hailed the Indian hockey team’s immense performance and thanked the side for giving the nation the moment that will be scripted in Indian history.

The official handle of the Mumbai Indians also hailed the legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh who played his final game with the win against Spain to claim the bronze medal.
The Indian freestyle wrestler, Geeta Phogat also lauded the massive achievement by the Indian hockey team on their stupendous achievement.
The two-time Olympic medal winner, PV Sindhu also lauded the ‘iconic’ achievement by the India men’s hockey team. The Indian badminton ace congratulated the side for their immense achievement.
World champions Germany face Netherlands in the gold medal match later on Thursday.
