The first image has emerged from the aftermath of Vinesh Phogat’s shocking disqualification from the Paris Olympics, showing the Indian wrestling star with her hair cut short and looking visibly pale and weak. The photo, taken at the Olympic Village Poly Clinic, captures Vinesh meeting with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha.
In the photo, Phogat is seen with Usha, who is offering her support and comfort during this difficult time. Phogat was disqualified from the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling category ahead of her gold medal match later today for failing to meet the weight cut.
Vinesh’s Disqualification is Very Shocking: IOA President PT Usha
IOA President Usha expressed her concern for Vinesh’s well-being, stating, “Her disqualification is very shocking, and I assured her of the complete support of the Indian Olympic Association, the Government of India, and the entire country. We are providing Vinesh with all the medical and emotional support she needs.”
Usha also mentioned the steps being taken to contest the decision. “The Wrestling Federation of India has filed an appeal to UWW to reconsider the decision to disqualify Vinesh, and the IOA is following that up in the strongest possible manner. I am aware of the relentless effort made by Vinesh’s medical team, led by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and Chief Commissioner Kagan Naran, through the night to ensure she could meet the competition requirements.”

Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala explained the process and the challenges Vinesh faced. “This weight cut has the benefit of putting you into a lighter weight category but does cause weakness and energy depletion, which is counterproductive to participation. Despite all efforts, Vinesh’s weight was 100 grams over her category, leading to her disqualification. All of Vinesh’s parameters during this weight cut were normal, and she felt perfectly normal throughout the process.”
