Duplantis copied the ‘relaxed’ posture of a 51-year-old Dikec who had previously taken social media by storm after winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

Sweden’s pole vaulter Armand Duplantis elated fans on the internet after recreating the viral pose of Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec. The Swedish athlete broke his own world record to clinch a gold in the men’s pole vault event at the Olympics yesterday, August 5. The 24-year-old sailed over the 6.25 metre mark to clinch first place and what he did afterwards caught the attention of sports fans across the world. He copied the ‘relaxed’ posture of a 51-year-old Dikec who had previously taken social media by storm after winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics. Following the celebration, Dikec himself shared a picture of Duplantis copying his pose on social media. Dikec congratulated the Swedish pole vaulter on notching gold and wrote, “Congratulations Duplantis.”

Impersonating the Turkish man, Duplantis pointed his fingers in the shape of a pistol toward the crowd with his other hand holstered inside his shorts. The official X (formerly Twitter) account of World Athletics shared photographs of both poses and wrote, “Celebration unmatched.”

Duplantis’ celebration also sparked multiple reactions from fans all over the world. “Yooh, this is GOATED,” one of them wrote.

Another said, “Best celebration worldwide.”

“Both of them are champions,” read another response.

A netizen said, “King of the Olympics.”

“Straight faces determine a relaxed mind,” added one more.

Dikec shot to fame during the 10-metre air pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics. Competing alongside his partner Sevval Iladya Tarhan, the Turkish shooter notched a silver medal without any shooting gear and with a hand in his pocket.

Dikec gave an interview to Turkish media outlet Huber Turk talking about how he was a natural. “I never needed that equipment…I am a natural shooter. That’s why I don’t use many accessories,” he said as per The Daily Mail.

Shooters participating in the Olympics typically use a ton of professional gear including specialised glasses and ear protection. Yusuf Dikec’s partner Sevval Iladya was using ear defenders and visors but the 51-year-old required nothing as he shot the target while shutting his other eye. The unorthodox shooting style sent shockwaves in the sporting world while also impressing other athletes such as Duplantis.
