Paris 2024, 6th August, India Results From Day 11: Vinesh Phogat Reaches Historic Wrestling

While the whole world was astounded by the Indian wrestling star, Vinesh Phogat’s sensational wins to make her way onto the semifinal, it was followed by heartbreak for the Indian fans as the Men’s Hockey team suffered a crushing defeat against Germany in the semi-final matchup.

Other notable results include Neeraj Chopra’s dominant start in the Olympics with just a single throw to ensure his qualification for the final event. However, his compatriot, Kishore Jena had contrasting fortunes as he failed to meet the qualification criteria.

The Men’s table tennis team also suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of China to end their campaign on a disappointing note. Similarly, Kiran Pahal also had a disappointing show in the Women’s 400m repechage round where she finished dead last to ensure her elimination.

The whole world was at its feet when Vinesh Phogat was able to get past the undefeated Japanese wrestler Yui Susaki but she did much better than that as she is now in contention for a gold medal to create history at the Parisian Games.

• Athletics: Men’s Javelin Throw Group A: Kishore Jena is eliminated as he fails to secure qualification with a throw of 80.73.
• Wrestling: Women’s Freestyle 50kg 1/8 Final – Vinesh Phogat beats Yui Susaki 3-2 to win by points to qualify for the quarterfinals.
• Wrestling: Women’s Freestyle 50kg Quarter Final – Vinesh Phogat beats Livach Oksana 7-5 to progress to the semifinal.
• Athletics: Women’s 400m Repechage Round: Kiran Pahal finishes at last (6th) in Heat 1 of the Repechage round and is eliminated.
• Athletics: Men’s Javelin Throw Group B: Neeraj Chopra qualifies for the final with a season’s best throw of 89.34.
• Wrestling: Women’s Freestyle 50kg Semifinal – Vinesh Phogat beats Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 to progress to the final.
• Hockey: Men’s Semifinal – India is defeated by Germany 2-3 and will head onto the bronze medal match.
