India at Paris Olympics, Day 11 Wrap: From Vinesh Phogat’s historic finals qualification to Neeraj Chopra’s personal best in qualification, here is all that transpired on August 6, Tuesday for India

A day of heartbreaks was followed with one of triumphs and success, as the Indian athletes found their rhythm to get back into the competitive groove today.

The man of the day was none other than the reigning Olympic champions Neeraj Chopra, who wasted no time in sealing his place in the final of men’s javelin throw of ongoing Paris 2024 with a gigantic effort of 89.34m – his best ever attempt at the Summer Games.

His attempt sealed him his spot in the final, which he shall look to take over and become the first Indian ever to win two golds at the Olympics.

More sensational heat was shown by Vinesh Phogat, who against all odds, usurped the reigning Olympic champion in her 50kg Freestyle division, in the very first round to pull off a stunner of a win.

She then continued her hot streak, putting away Ukrainian Oksana Livach in the quarterfinal, took down Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez in the semifinal to seal her spot in the final where she will be vying for Gold.

Men’s Table Tennis Team:

The Indian men’s table tennis team crashed out of the Paris Olympics 2024. Unlike the women’s trio, the men suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat against the Chinese team, comprising Chuqin Wang, Long Ma and Zhendong Fan.

Men’s Javelin Throw Qualification:

Reigning Olympic Neeraj Chopra wasted no time in sealing his place in the final of men’s javelin throw of ongoing Paris 2024 with a gigantic effort of 89.34m – his best ever attempt at the Summer Games.

Chopra was in Group B of qualification round and in his first attempt, he beat the qualification mark of 84m by 5.34m in a statement performance to begin his title defense in Paris.

Kishore Jena, the second Indian in the fray, managed a best throw of 80.73 but hasn’t qualified for the final round after dropping out of top-12. Only those who meet the qualification mark or at least 12 best performers advance to the final.

Women’s Wrestling 50kg Freestyle:

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who has been in the midst of controversy galore over the past year, is off to a trailblazing start at the Paris Olympics, as she sunk the reigning world champion Japan’s Yui Susaki in the first round of the Women’s 50kg Freestyle event at the Paris Olympics.

Vinesh’s win also marks a historic first loss in international circuits for the top-seeded Japanese Susaki, who did not concede a single point enroute to her hold during the Tokyo Games in 2020

Vinesh Phogat’s dream run in the Paris Olympics continued after her overhaul of the reigning champion, as the Indian wrestler got the better of Ukraine’s Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals of the 50kg Women’s Freestyle event.

Phogat showcased her experience and vigilance as she surgically dismantled Livach 7-5 to seal her spot in the semifinal.

The ace wrestler followed it up with an even more clinical performance in the semis, taking down Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 to seal her spot in the final of the Women’s 50kg Freestyle.

She becomes the first ever female Indian wrestler to make it to the final at the Olympics.
