How Viral Turkish Shooter Yusuf Dikec’s Daughter Motivated Him For Paris Olympics: WATCH –

Turkish sports shooter Yusuf Dikec became an overnight sensation after winning his first-ever Olympic medal at the Paris Games. Pairing up with Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, Dikech finished second in the mixed team 10m Air Pistol event to bag the silver medal at the Paris Olympics.

The achievement, however, was not the only reason behind his rapid popularity. In the Olympics final, Dikec was spotted shooting with one hand in the pocket and his no-gear look went widely viral. The 51-year-old recently featured in an interview for Medya Midas with his daughter, Basak Dikec, who motivated him ahead of the Paris campaign.

The little girl wore the silver medal around her neck and spoke about the tactics that helped her father achieve the historic feat in Paris. According to Basak, she always tried to uplift the confidence of her dad as she did not want her to lose at the Olympics. She also explained how Dikec needed to control his breathing while pulling the trigger so that his hand would not shake.

Glimpses of the interview were shared on X (formerly Twitter) and the caption of the post read, “Dad and Daughter moments. She says she gave him tactics and motivation cause if he lost he’d be upset. Explaining how he needs to take a breath and release it, and as all his breath is released he pulls the trigger. That way his hands don’t shake.”

While the other competitors wore specialised gear like visors, high-end ear defenders and lenses, Yusuf Dikec only had a pair of yellow earbuds in the Olympics final. He, however, did not expect to become famous for his look. Dikec has featured in every edition of the Summer Olympics since 2008.

About his viral no-gear look, Yusuf Dikec’s teammate Sevval Ilayda Tarhan told Reuters, “I’m proud of him, but it’s not that he does not have the equipment. He’s used to shooting with regular glasses and does not need extra gear. It’s a personal thing and he’s comfortable that way.”

Sevval Ilayda Tarhan also confirmed that the Paris Games was not her last Olympics campaign with Yusuf Dikec. The duo will compete in the Los Angeles Games four years later.
